What Do You Do When…? - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

What Do You Do When…?

“But Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house." Now He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.” (Matthew 13:57-58, NKJV)

What do you do when you have tried to share the love of the Lord with another, be it family member, a friend who you are growing within that relationship or someone you never met before, but feel compelled to speak to them, and they have a negative response?

Or what happens when you have a call on your life, that you know the Lord has given you, to start a new job, begin a new ministry, move to another city or state because you believe the Lord is speaking to you to do that, and others don’t understand it? Or they may just flat out and oppose your action, or you yourself?

Trust me, I know. Having moved my wife and kids several times, to several different cities and states, with the strong belief that it was the Lord, doesn’t get you the brownie points, nor the “Rah! Rah!” you may expect, or at least hope to, from close family and friends at times. In fact, I have had people simply oppose the idea, the thought, that I had heard the Lord, and I was going to fall off the deep end because of it, if I continued in that belief.

Follow Jesus, no matter what may come your way.

For those who have gotten the same response, or treatment, you know it hurts. Especially when the ones you really wanted to be excited for you, almost got to the point of now hating you. You were “leaving them” to go after some dream you said the Lord Himself, yes, the very God in heaven, happened to give you. Really? He spoke to you?

As was so, the true story about Joseph, of course, is a very prime example given to us to hold onto. You can read again his family treated him, and how he later had to overcome what happened to him, coming from the reactions of his family.

“He told his father too, as well as his brothers, but his father rebuked him: “What is this dream you have had? Do you really expect me, your mother and your brothers to come and prostrate ourselves before you on the ground?” 11 His brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the matter in mind.” (Genesis 37:10-11, Complete Jewish Bible)

Jesus (Yeshua) faced the same challenges, even more so. He called Himself, “Messiah. Son of God. The One who takes away the sins of the world.” Not everyone received His words, nor His miraculous actions.

Remember His family’s reaction and those who knew Him growing up? Recall the ones He attended the synagogue with?

“At this, because he said, "I am the Bread that came down from heaven," the Jews started arguing over him: "Isn't this the son of Joseph? Don't we know his father? Don't we know his mother? How can he now say, 'I came down out of heaven' and expect anyone to believe him?" (John 6:41-42, THE MESSAGE)

And then, as history is written, they had Him crucified.

The time is coming and now is even for many believers in nations outside of the USA, where this is a reality. Standing up for your faith in the One Who delivered you, saved you, and then said, “Come follow Me”, are being martyred for their faith.

But their reward is in heaven. For eternity. Forever.

So what do you do when you are misunderstood, laughed at, questioned about your thinking and your faith?

You keep on believing in the Lord, You keep on trusting in His guidance. You surround yourself with those who DO understand, who DO know, who DO walk as you do and together celebrate the life we have in the One who is leading and directing our steps.

And if those who are opposing your move in the Lord won’t consider what you know to be true, or accept what you have to offer, then move on, as Jesus Himself told His disciples, “Now whatever city or town you enter, inquire who in it is worthy, and stay there till you go out. And when you go into a household, greet it.

If the household is worthy, let your peace come upon it. But if it is not worthy, let your peace return to you. And whoever will not receive you nor hear your words, when you depart from that house or city, shake off the dust from your feet. Assuredly, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city!” (Matthew 10:11-16, NKJV)

Jesus has the final answer. After all, He rose from the dead to prove it.

Now think on this.

Shalom and ahava (peace and love in Hebrew).

Special Needs. Special Love. Now Think On This by Steve Martin

Special Needs. Special Love.

Now Think On This
Steve Martin

“As He passed by, He saw a man blind from birth. And His disciples asked Him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he would be born blind?" Jesus answered, "It was neither that this man sinned, nor his parents; but it was so that the works of God might be displayed in him.” John 9:1-3, NASU)

Every once in a while the Lord chooses to demonstrate His Father’s heart, His very precious love, in a very special way. Though some would consider this a mistake, and others might look upon it as being imperfect, He reveals a further, deeper, godly love. We too must have this in our hearts.

A special needs kid actually shows us the special love of God.

Maybe like me, when your child was birthed (those who have children), one of the first things you wanted to see is if they had ten fingers and ten toes. Before our modern medical devices such as sonograms, we didn’t even know if an unborn child was a male or female. So the natural thing was to look. I remember doing just that, to make sure each one was “perfect”, with no defects or being odd in any way. At least as I then understood things.

It has always been a part of human culture to make these judgments, even at the moment of birth, whether someone was good or bad. We would then act accordingly. In far too many cases, if the child had a defect, or abnormality, they were considered not worthy of life. Some ungodly cultures even destroy life if not to their standards. Even in the “modern world”, these times we now live in, knowing ahead of time as we do the growth and development of the unborn, abortion is considered a viable option, the “human” thing to do, if an abnormality or unwanted condition is present. We want to apply our so called wise wisdom - “Save the suffering, for the child and the parents or caretaker.”

How far we have fallen from the heart of God.

Even in other matters about us - if an object has a small blemish, we toss it out. If there is some peculiar look about it, and it doesn’t fit the generally accepted mold, our far too often response is to typically reject, remove or replace. We tend to not want anything out of the ordinary around us.

When Jesus was asked who sinned, his parents or the one born blind, He responded, as written above, “It was neither that this man sinned, nor his parents; but it was so that the works of God might be displayed in him.” (John 9:3)

Our thinking would be, “Why would the Lord have allowed this in the first place? Doesn’t He make all things good?” Of course the Lord does. And He also demonstrates His love in ways we don’t fully understand.

I am now believing that what we for so long considered “good”, having no spot or wrinkle, isn’t quite the way He has seen it, in His wisdom and understanding. The Perfect Lamb, Jesus our Messiah, Yeshua HaMashiach was the only one without spot or wrinkle. All the rest of us have them. And yet, the Lord demonstrates continually His perfect love for us, and His creation, very simply and quite profoundly, in the very acts He daily shows, with His perfect love for all things. And people.

Special needs kids, as we have now labeled them, actually show us the perfect love of God. Given the fact that He Himself has blessed us with them, by showing His love for what has been called for too long “imperfect”, clearly reveals a deeper aspect of the love our Lord has for His creation.

My respect for those who have special needs kids is immense. I can appreciate the extra care, time and outpouring of love it takes in raising a child with abilities not present in some areas of their life. I also understand those special demonstrations of the Father’s love that He has given to them. As for their parents and family members, I believe He gives extra grace for the care needed.

Love for His people, which come in all shapes, sizes and sectors of life, must go beyond that for only the “lovely and the whole” as we would consider them. His love for all creation takes special love, which He will give to us, for them, as we abide in Him.

Now think on this, in the love of Jesus,

LOVE FOR HIS PEOPLE FEATURED BOOK

Paperback $5.99
Kindle $1.99

In 2010 the Lord God of Israel, my Savior Jesus Christ (Yeshua HaMashiach), led me to start the ministry we call Love For His People. Its primary purpose is to share the love of the Lord with the nation of Israel, Jews around the world, and the people in all the nations as we can. For that end, through social media, writing and distributing books, and in person ministry, we are seeing the love of Jesus spread. We are grateful that He has given us much love in order to do just that.

We often hear the word “love” spoken out loud, and written about, in many ways. It has contrasting meanings to the wide range of people that exist, as it is expressed in different methods through people. When it has all been said and done, there is an eternal love that will stand the test of fire. Because the biblical expression of love, laying down one’s life for his friends, has eternal value, this love from God the Father to His creation is the type that I most seek after and try to share.

In these short chapters of Arms of Love, which is also the title of a song Laurie and I sang while leading various church worship meetings, and as the lead singers in our Ahava Love Band, I share some aspects of how I believe the Bible speaks of love. For you who are about to read this, my prayer is that your heart will be enlarged with His, and you too will become one, even more, to give love for His people, both Jew and Gentile, both saved and unsaved.

I hope that as you read these chapters, you will become more inspired to spend time with the Lord, experience His heart of love, and share it with our fellow man. The world needs to know the love of God.

Love of the Truth - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

Love of the Truth

Now Think On This
Steve Martin

“For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.

The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.” (2 Thessalonians 2:7-10 (NKJV)

In a classic quote many of you have heard spoken on the big screen, from over 20 years ago in the movie, A Few Good Men (1992), Col. Nathan R. Jessep (Jack Nicholson) responded to the fierce questioning of military lawyer Lt. Daniel Kaffee's (Tom Cruise) with this outburst, “You can’t handle the truth!”

Seems like it was a prophetic word recorded back then, as in today’s world truth is what many would consider is whatever you want it to be. Because the one foundational, solid, eternal Word of God has been rejected and replaced with man’s contemporary knowledge, whatever you say, whenever you say it, is now taken as the “gospel truth”, whether it is or not. Many times it is simply a lie.

As the Gospel has been watered down in many assemblies on each Sunday morning, lack of knowing the truth has left a void for anything solid on which to stand on. Therefore, as the tide rolls in and rolls out, as public opinion goes, so does the beach sand on which it flows over.

In Matthew 7:24-27 there are two foundations which Jesus describes, as He graphically reveals what will result, when each building choice is challenged. Did we build on the solid rock or sand?

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock.
Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell—and great was its fall.”
Jesus clearly states that rejection of truth, found only in His word, will result in a great fall, when the times of testing come for each person. Either from lack of knowledge or from an earlier specific choice that was made, what happens in each trial experienced will prove the existence of faith in the Son or not.
Our Lord says that each foundation will be tested. Our “house”, that which consists of our spirit, soul and body, will either stand or fall apart, based on decisions we made in the building process, to do our own thing, go the way of the world, or choose the solid truth of the Almighty God’s written Word, as found in the Bible.

Those who had chosen to love the truth will have the ability to withstand the wearing down that comes in trials. Their bedrock faith will be revealed, while even growing more, through those testing times.

Love of the truth will protect us from unrighteous deception, lying wonders, and acts of Satan. We will be able to see through the fog that others have allowed to cover them. We will be able to know what is counterfeit, and what is true. Our discernment will be sharp.

I encourage you to go deeper in your pursuit in getting to know Him Who is Faithful and Ture. Hearing Yeshua’s voice, reading His Word, receiving sound teaching, and walking in obedience will keep your heart, mind and spirit prepared to challenge the lies of the enemy that come daily.

We will especially need to know God’s biblical truth in order to resist falsehood and stand strong in these end times.

Now think on this,

Steve Martin

Pick Me - Overcoming Rejection & Disappointment - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

Pick Me
- Overcoming Rejection
& Disappointment
- Now Think On This
by Steve Martin

“You did not choose Me, I chose you; and I have commissioned you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last; so that whatever you ask from the Father in My name He may give you.” John 15:16 CJB (Complete Jewish Bible CJB)

When it came time to pick teams for the grade school lunch time recess kick ball game, I enjoyed taking the ones the other team didn't want. And then beating them with a team of "rejects."

What others saw as being no good at playing ball, I liked to take those unchosen guys and girls and win the game, just by the sheer determination we had, if not because of natural talent. We didn't win all the time, but enough to gain some admiration from the opposing players, and the satisfaction of taking what others had rejected and proving them wrong.

In many ways the challenge of “getting picked or not getting picked” goes on throughout our lives. Even as an adult, I've been on the receiving end of "We don't need you," or "Sorry, but you don't have the qualifications." It hurts. Being rejected goes deep into our souls and spirits. It makes you feel like giving up in the pursuits you have been longing for. You sometimes wonder, "What is it going to take, Lord? When will I get picked?"

At times I don't have the answer, or can't seem to hear what I long to hear from the Lord when rejection occurs. The temptation is to just want to stop and say, “What is the use in trying?” We can reach a point where it is hard to continue believing it really will happen as you had dreamed, hoped, or seriously thought that it would.

So what do you do? Run from the Lord? Run to the Lord? Hide in shame because you once were convinced something wouldn't happen again, but then it did. Then you are not sure if it will ever have the promised fulfillment. Resisting bitterness at that point also becomes a challenge.

Hoping in people or an upcoming event, even trusting in one’s heart desires can't always be counted on. There are just too many circumstances that are out of our control, or so it seems to be. Thus disappointments, rejection and unfulfilled promises will continue to happen. They happened to Jesus - right down to His crucifixion.

David knew the rejection of family, in regards to his own father and brothers. He was likely sent to watch the sheep to keep out of their way. When all the others went to the battle front, it was David who had to stay behind, and do what was a meaningless job to others, a lowly shepherd, especially when one has aspirations of greater roles.

In Psalm 27:7-14, David wrote, “Listen, God, I'm calling at the top of my lungs: "Be good to me! Answer me!" When my heart whispered, "Seek God," my whole being replied, "I'm seeking him!" Don't hide from me now!

You've always been right there for me; don't turn your back on me now. Don't throw me out, don't abandon me; you've always kept the door open. My father and mother walked out and left me, but God took me in.

Point me down your highway, God; direct me along a well-lighted street; show my enemies whose side you're on. Don't throw me to the dogs, those liars who are out to get me, filling the air with their threats.

I'm sure now I'll see God's goodness in the exuberant earth. Stay with God! Take heart. Don't quit. I'll say it again: Stay with God.” (THE MESSAGE)

Throughout Scripture there are words that we must rely on. We need to learn to run to Him, for He is the Solid Rock.
"My times are in Thy hands." (Psalm 31:15 NASB) It is a verse I have had to hold onto as truth often, when all else seems to be otherwise.

The Lord knows our pain. He understands the doubts and fears we face. He calls us to Himself, to help give us understanding when these times of rejection and disappointment come to each of us. They will come, but He does respond.

Disappointing experiences will pass. Another day will bring new understanding and opportunities to replace what was dreamed about. It doesn't make it any easier when we are in the midst of it, but knowing He will work it out, in His perfect timing, will help get us to the next day, and beyond.

If rejected, if disappointed, if seeing the promise unfilled...call on His Name, the Name of Jesus, Yeshua. Keep the hope He gives within, and move on with the overcoming spirit He has given to comfort us in the daily walk.

I had to again look to Him, even today, to overcome disappointment and that which I saw as rejection. Thankfully He was there in my time of need. I was able to stand and overcome the disappointment and rejection.

As the Scripture at the beginning of this message confirms, the Lord God has chosen us; He Himself has picked us to be His children. What confidence and faith for the future we can have because of this. When the times come that bring doubt, discouragement and rejection, we can stand on His Word. He has picked you and me, and He promised to see us through to the end.

Now think on this,

Steve Martin
