Remember getting a gold star on your school paper in grade school? Even adults love it. This I know, for on my accounting job in a corporate office setting, after I had finished reconciling the credit card expense report of a staff’s individual month expenditures, I would send a “gold star’ back to one or more in an email, if deserving. That is if they did their work accurately and in excellent order.

I loved rewarding those doing a job well done. And they loved it if they got one! A gold star!

That may have happened a few years ago, but just today I heard someone say they had heard another express how they had loved getting them. I’ll have to start it again.

People receive and appreciate affirmation. We all love gold stars.

What was it like when your dad and mom said to you, “Good job” after you knew you did a job well done on the task, no matter how small or large, that they had given you to accomplish? It felt good, right?

Imagine if God the Father spoke out loud to you, in the presence of others, as He did for Jesus, saying, “This is My beloved son (or daughter) in whom I am well pleased.” What would that do for your spirit! It sure would cause mine to soar!

Affirmation, or being assured of who you are or what you have done, is so vital to each of us. Many did not receive it growing up, though. No father or mother who gave approval but should have. Or not having a good teacher, who acknowledged your best efforts, but missed it. Maybe it was a sports coach who really loved the other one but rarely noticed you. (Sit on the bench as I did in football senior year? At least #88 was between #87 and #89. Comrades on the bench.)

We can be confident that once we have believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, Yeshua HaMashiach, that He affirms us. When the Father sees us, He sees Jesus, His Holy Spirit, in us. And He is well pleased. With His precious blood having covered all our sins, through His death on the tree, what the Father sees then is His redemption having been received by those who call on His Son’s Name for salvation.

Not only should we desire affirmation, but we should also seek to keep doing those things which deserve being acknowledged, and even doing so even if it doesn’t. (For our God sees all.) Paul urges us to keep striving to do that which pleases our Lord and to do it continually and increasingly in our lives.

“Therefore, brothers, just as you learned from us how you had to live in order to please God, and just as you are living this way now, we ask you — indeed, united with the Lord Yeshua, we urge you — to keep doing so more and more. For you know what instructions we gave you on the authority of the Lord Yeshua.” 1 Thessalonians 4:1-3, Complete Jewish Bible

Be affirmed in your knowledge of your place in the Lord’s heart. Then practice affirming those around you, encouraging them to keep striving and not grow weary in doing good. (2 Thessalonians 3:13)

Getting gold stars is minor compared to the crowns we will receive once we reach our heavenly destination and eternal rewards. Won’t that be great!

His eyes were like a fiery flame, and on his head were many royal crowns. And he had a name written which no one knew but himself. He was wearing a robe that had been soaked in blood, and the name by which he is called is, “THE WORD OF GOD.” Revelation 19:11-14, Complete Jewish Bible

So how long has it been? One month? Two years? Four decades? Long-time, right?

How long has it been since you heard the Lord call your name, you responded wholeheartedly with a, “Yes, Lord!” and then His Holy Spirit spoke to personal promises to you?

Was He lying? Did He get your hopes up only to let you down? Were you expecting a rose garden and you seemingly got one filled with weeds and red dirt? (That can happen here in North and South Carolina. Red clay!)

You know what? The One Who is Faithful and True, the One Who cannot lie nor lead you astray, will also be faithful to keep His word given to you. Why? Because He is Love, and Love does not disappoint, Love does not fail, and Love sees that what He promised, even centuries-old, will bring it to pass.

Let me show you how with one big example proving His faithfulness.

Let’s start with Scripture, for that is the only word foundational word that we can stand on. Even the gates of hell, try as they may, will not, cannot, keep His Word spoken and written word from all the days gone by from coming to pass.

We will look at the very words coming to pass today, spoken centuries ago by the prophets of Israel, to those whom He had chosen, to be an example and light to the nations. The Jews.

“'For thus says the Lord God: "Indeed I Myself will search for My sheep and seek them out. As a shepherd seeks out his flock on the day he is among his scattered sheep, so will I seek out My sheep and deliver them from all the places where they were scattered on a cloudy and dark day.

And I will bring them out from the peoples and gather them from the countries, and will bring them to their own land; I will feed them on the mountains of Israel, in the valleys and in all the inhabited places of the country.

I will feed them in good pasture, and their fold shall be on the high mountains of Israel. There they shall lie down in a good fold and feed in rich pasture on the mountains of Israel.

I will feed My flock, and I will make them lie down," says the Lord God.

"I will seek what was lost and bring back what was driven away, bind up the broken and strengthen what was sick; but I will destroy the fat and the strong, and feed them in judgment." Ezekiel 34”11-16, NKJV

The One Who spoke to these people, who themselves had turned from their Living God to the ways of the nations, the idols in their heads and their hearts, scattered them Himself, but Who also promised to bring them back, as one big sing to all people, in all the nations.

He is bringing them back where? To the promised land of Israel. He promised He would do so.

In 1948 He did just that. He Who promised to do that what He had promised, to fulfill prophetic words declared many, many, many years before is doing it now before our very eyes.

You then think the Lord, whom you have called upon to save, lead, and direct your life cannot fulfill a promise He had given you?

Think again. What more proof do we need then to see that the Living God of Israel, Jesus Christ, Yeshua HaMashiach, is bringing back His people to the Land.

And as for those long-awaited promises that He spoke to you, He indeed will also bring to pass.

Our God is Faithful and True. Stay true yourself to Him and watch Him bring fulfillment.

“Incline Your ear, O Lord, and answer me; for I am afflicted and needy. Preserve my soul, for I am a godly man; O You my God, save Your servant who trusts in You. Be gracious to me, O Lord, for to You I cry all day long.

Make glad the soul of Your servant, for to You, O Lord, I lift up my soul. For You, Lord, are good, and ready to forgive, and abundant in lovingkindness to all who call upon You. Give ear, O Lord, to my prayer; and give heed to the voice of my supplications!

In the day of my trouble I shall call upon You, for You will answer me. There is no one like You among the gods, O Lord, nor are there any works like Yours. All nations whom You have made shall come and worship before You, O Lord, and they shall glorify Your name. For You are great and do wondrous deeds; You alone are God.” Psalm 86:1-10, NASU

"Weep" Now Think On This by Steve Martin

Weep 

“Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.” Romans 12:15, Complete Jewish Bible

In the last two days, when I sat down in my prayer chair for my early morning time with the Lord, this sense of weeping came over me. It began as a swelling up in my chest, and then it came forth through my eyes, as the Holy Spirit moved upon me.

I wasn’t sure why He was sharing this experience with me, so I prayed in tongues and let Him use my intercession for His purposes. Most often we can choose to freely give of ourselves as His channel of love and act out of obedience for His plans. The knowing may not be made fully aware, but the doing certainly should.

Maybe this was for our friends in Israel, as He watches over His returning people coming from all the nations where they had been dispersed during the centuries. He clearly sees them, making provision from His holy throne from which He broadcasts His love, through those who have accepted His call to support and provide the means of doing so, both in the natural and the spiritual.

Maybe this intercession weeping was for the one on the dark, secluded street last night, left out of life, clinging to any hope available. May they find the joy that is in You, Jesus, the Savior of the world. You died so that all could live who seek and find You.

It could have been for the nation of Hong Kong, as the people have been crying out publicly for weeks, desiring for the freedom in their country that He alone can truly bring. He may have wanted me to join with them in their longing for that truth.

We may not understand why He leads us in this form of intercession, but we must be open vessels for those times He leads us in the manner.

In Isaiah 30:18-22, the prophet spoke forth this to the people, “Therefore the Lord longs to be gracious to you, and therefore He waits on high to have compassion on you. For the Lord is a God of justice; how blessed are all those who long for Him.

 O people in Zion, inhabitant in Jerusalem, you will weep no longer. He will surely be gracious to you at the sound of your cry; when He hears it, He will answer you. Although the Lord has given you bread of privation and water of oppression, He, your Teacher will no longer hide Himself, but your eyes will behold your Teacher.

Your ears will hear a word behind you, " This is the way, walk in it," whenever you turn to the right or to the left. And you will defile your graven images overlaid with silver, and your molten images plated with gold. You will scatter them as an impure thing, and say to them, " Be gone!" (NASU)

There is an eternal longing in the Father’s heart, expressed through His Only Begotten Son Jesus (Yeshua) and His Holy Spirit, the Comforter sent to earth to bring forth His purposes in love.

We are called to be intercessors – to pray, to fast, to weep for the answers and solutions needing to come, which will bring healing, restoration, life fulfillment, and redemption offered only through His shed blood on the cross. As His Spirit directs us, we must follow. He is our only hope.

We read of the time Yeshua wept when his friend Lazarus had died and was buried. His emotions as He walked among us those 33 years displayed the Father’s loving heart.

“When Jesus saw her sobbing and the Jews with her sobbing, a deep anger welled up within him.  He said, "Where did you put him?" "Master, come and see," they said. Now Jesus wept. The Jews said, "Look how deeply he loved him." John 11:33-36 (THE MESSAGE)

There will be plenty of opportunities we will have to join with the Father in interceding for our families, our friends, the nations around the planet. As we give ourselves to Him, He will lead us, direct our steps, and allow us to experience what is on His heart.

He knows what the end results will bring, that of victory and rejoicing. But the path we walk on to get there will take us through much tribulation and warfare. We must present ourselves as ones to share in this.

When I again encountered this worship song on my playlist this morning, with Darlene Zschech of Hillsongs (1995) singing once again The Power of Your Love, my spirit soared. Yes! What a powerful song! 

Back then. Even now.

Immediately I experienced the love of the Lord, knowing He is near, He is in control, He is moving among the nations through His Holy Spirit, spreading what He alone does so well, the power of His love. In and through us, those who walk in His ways, who know and experience His leading through His word and His might, in the knowledge of His love. We have known, and continue to know, the power of His love.

Consider what He has does in your life, once again. Let the love of the Lord be renewed in your heart today, as His will is unfolded in through you and His love surrounds you, to share with others.

“But let your 'Yes' be 'Yes,' and your 'No,' 'No.' For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.” Matthew 5:37, NKJV

Have you ever got this response to a question, need a real answer, but instead, you hear back, “Let me pray about it.” Almost non-committal. Because that is what it really is quite often.

You are looking for a commitment from another, and yet, as so often is the case with Christians these days, we have become so accustomed in giving a non-committal response to most requests, just to get the one asking to hopefully forget about asking us in the first place, and not bother asking again. In truth, it is because often we are hoping they will forget about asking us and find someone who will give an honest answer.

In far too many cases, it has become a flippant, quick answer, when the response is, “I will pray about it”, when all along we are hoping the one asking won’t follow up after enough time has gone by.

Somehow, I get the sense that when Jesus gave His answer of “let your ‘yes’ be ‘yes’ and your ‘no’ be ‘no’”, He knew what was in the heart of man. In fact, He followed this statement with another, “For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.” Wow! If we must give something other than a yes or a no answer, it is from the evil one? Jesus said as much.

I like how THE MESSAGE version of the Bible verse reads, “Just say 'yes' and 'no.' When you manipulate words to get your own way, you go wrong.”

Simply put – if you can’t give an honest answer about something, just say so. “Yes, I can" or "No, I can’t.”

Here is another verse about responding in truth from the heart, written in the Complete Jewish Bible. “Giving an honest answer is like giving a kiss.” Proverbs 24:26 

Most kisses are good, so I take this to mean that when you say what you really should say, that which is in your heart, then the person receiving the answer knows it, and is thankful for the truth given.

For myself, I am thankful for those who tell me, honestly, whether or not they can do something asked of them. If they truly are not sure of their schedule, commitment ability to complete the task asked of them, or simply don’t want to, I can appreciate that. Just tell me. But to say, “I’ll pray about it”, when you know you really won’t, then stop lying. Again, as Jesus said, “for whatever is more than these is from the evil one.”

We need to be more honest with each other. We need to stop making excuses as to why we won’t be committed or give something, time or goods, when it is in our ability to do so. And if we can’t, then simply say so. Agree?

If you really are sincere, and really will commit to pray before giving your answer, knowing that you do need to seek the Lord for His wisdom and guidance, then do so. But if you know already that you really won’t give an honest answer, just to somewhat brush the person off, then simply let them know.

Being the leader of a ministry, I get many requests from those who know of our work, asking for more provision for them and theirs. There are several times when I simply need to tell them, “No.” That answer doesn’t make it any easier to say, but it is the truth.

Our trust in each other, and for one another, will become more as it should be, as we give honest answers to one another. Practice how you would want to be answered. By giving the truth.
