Israel & Our Friends - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

Israel & Our Friends

Now Think On This
Steve Martin

“He has said, “It is not enough that you are merely my servant to raise up the tribes of Ya‘akov
and restore the offspring of Isra’el. I will also make you a light to the nations, so my salvation can spread to the ends of the earth.” (Isaiah 49:6, Complete Jewish Bible)

In a few days Laurie and I will embark on another overseas trip to spend time with our friends in Israel. This will be my 12th journey to the Land. For Laurie, her third. As part of the ministry of Love For His People, founded by us in 2010, we seek to show further tangible support for those we lift up in our prayers, with our voice, and with ongoing monthly financial blessing. We spend time with families similar to yours and ours, demonstrating our solid commitment to stand strong with them.

It is a spiritual connection, supernatural in design, bestowed by the Lord Himself. As Derek Prince once said, “You don’t choose Jerusalem; Jerusalem chooses you.” In other words, the Lord God of Israel is the One who speaks His words, choosing ones to stand in the spiritual battle realm, supporting those He has called as His chosen ones. And as a debt we owe to the Jewish people, we take our stand alongside them.

Over the centuries the Jews have been the faithful ones to receive and write down His Scriptures, carefully and dutifully passing them to the next generations, as His Holy Spirit spoke the anointed words through the Jewish prophets. And at the proper time, in fulfillment of the prophecies, the Messiah Yeshua (Jesus), came as promised for the good of the nations. If it had not been for their diligence, endurance and commitment through those centuries of destruction, murder and banishment throughout the nations, believers would not have the roots of our faith today.

In the last 100 years and more, the Lord has been regathering the Jews from all over the world to this land promised to them, given in covenant specifically to them since the days of Abraham and Moses. To be a light to the nations, demonstrating the eternal love of God the Father, together with His Only Son, they are fulfilling that prophetic word. Because of His protection and faithfulness to them, this will ever be their home.

“'He who scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him as a shepherd does his flock.' (Jeremiah 31:10, NKJV)

“Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast. The Lord nullifies the counsel of the nations; He frustrates the plans of the peoples. The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of His heart from generation to generation.

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom He has chosen for His own inheritance.” (Psalm 33:8-12, NASU)

We delight to uphold the Lord’s plans for His people. We count it a joy to be a part of His purposes for Israel in these last days. We continue to give ourselves to strengthen, encourage and freely give to those who have stood for Him.

To the believers in Yeshua, we give thanks for their commitment to His Name. For those who are yet to know the Messiah, we say that your time will come, and we will be there for you.

Faithful - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

Faithful
Now Think On This
Steve Martin

“He was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Moses also was in all His house.
(Hebrews 3:2-3, NASU)

Faithful. Now that is a word we don’t hear enough of these days when describing another, or when someone describes ourselves.

How often have you heard it being said of one, “He was faithful to his wife.” Or, “She kept her promises. If she said it, you can be sure she would do it. She was faithful to the end.”

So often we hear of the politician who said one thing before the election day, but once in office they seemed to have forgotten what they had spoken, and instead bend to the peer pressure surrounding them. Or the sad stories reported of school teachers taking advantage of their students, having sex with them, unfaithful both to their student and their commitment to teach truth.

It has been far too often that leadership has failed us. Out of their mouth has come one thing, but behind the scene it is discovered that unfaithfulness to their God and the people they were called to serve was the opposite of what picture was painted for the world to see. Disappointment may then come upon their followers, which then cause them to give up believing in anyone trustworthy. A cynical spirit is thus given a place to lodge in people’s hearts.

We have been called to be a witness of the Lord Jesus. He Who was faithful to the end, during His time on earth, and for all eternity, has too chosen and appointed us to be as He is – faithful and true.

“Thus says the Lord,
The Redeemer of Israel, their Holy One,
To Him whom man despises,
To Him whom the nation abhors,
To the Servant of rulers:
"Kings shall see and arise,
Princes also shall worship,
Because of the Lord who is faithful,
The Holy One of Israel;
And He has chosen You." Isaiah 49:7 NKJV

Our lives, demonstrated before the world, are to be ones proving the faithfulness of the One we serve. If we say we are going to do something, we must do it. If we commit to be there when we say we will, then we must be there. On time and ready for action.

The desire of the Lord’s child must be to someday hear Him speak to them the word He spoke in parable, “His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.'” (Matthew 25:21-22 NKJV)

May it be said of us in our days that we are faithful, that we do what we will say we will do; that we keep our promises, no matter what the cost is to ourselves. May others say of us today, “They are faithful.”  And may our God say of us when we stand before Him on that day, “You are a good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of your Lord.”

Step Along the Way - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

Step Along the Way

Now Think On This
Steve Martin

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Psalm 119:105 NASU)

At some of the most unexpected, but most needed times, the Lord sends a word of encouragement along the way. During those times when we are uncertain, unclear, or unknowing which next step to take, the Lord will bring a word to encourage us to keep walking.

It seems that being faithful in obedience requires us to do that which we know to do when we know we must continue doing it. Especially when the light isn’t as bright as we’d like, we must keep walking in the light we know. We must be steadfast in our convictions and hold the ground we have been called to stand on.

Because the Lord is faithful, He may not always give us a full powered flashlight or ocean lighthouse to show us the way, but He will shine a light on the path ahead of us to show the way to go. He will also give us a word, from His Holy Word, through a friend’s word of encouragement, or by His Holy Spirit breathing a remembrance of something we heard as a promise years ago, and really need to hear again at this moment in time.

Walking the walk will cause us to be mindful of keeping our eyes upon Jesus, the Author and the Finisher of our faith. To keep us from stumbling along the way, due to rocks, roots, or other obstacles, natural and spiritual, our hearts must be strong in Him, relying on His light of encouragement and direction as we step along the way.

We all need an encouraging word now and then, reminding us of the way we are to go, to keep on going. I am thankful to You, Lord, that You have walked this walk, and know exactly what we need, when we need it most.

Take the Time - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

Take the Time

Now Think On This
Steve Martin

“Seek the Lord and His strength; Seek His face continually.” Psalm 105:4 NASU)

How common it is for us to get into the car and turn the radio or CD on. Listen to some music. Catch the latest news. Drown out the work thoughts so you can leave them behind on the commute home.

It used to be an automatic thing for me. Once the car had started, I would reach over and push the knob on. The noise was there.

But then the Lord would ask me, “Do you want to spend some time with Me on the way home?” When I first heard that question months ago, I had the guilt trip of wanting time to myself, and do what I wanted to do. But then I realized He wanted to have some time with me; not take away my “own” time.

After the learning incident, I now ask before I just go into auto pilot and switch on the radio. “Anything you’d like to talk about, Lord?” Sometimes I also realize that He just wants to train my mind to take a break, and not feel the necessity to always have something going on. I am learning that more often than we think our Lord is wanting to teach us the importance of experiencing quiet, or allow Him to speak to us, if we take the time.

Have you ever thought why it is that some prisoners come to the Lord while incarcerated? It may be because they are finally in a place where things stop moving all around them, or in particular themselves, and they have that quiet time, undisturbed by outside stimulus. He has them in a place where they can finally listen.

Similarly, I know people who have gotten sick, and would later tell me, “God had to slow me down so He could speak to me.”

Maybe we can initiate the time ourselves, before the Lord would have to allow a sickness, or even imprisonment in some cases, to get our attention? But it seems history proves otherwise. The Lord will get our attention, using any means He desires, for our own good in the long run.

Keeping this message short will give you time to stop, listen, and acknowledge His desire to speak to you. That will be a good thing for you.
