“America, Bless God" - Now Think On This by Steve Martin

“America, Bless God"

"Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget none of His benefits;” (Psalm 103:1-2, NASU)

Often you will hear speakers, especially politicians (who always seem to be campaigning) end their message with, “And may God bless America.” This may not be as common as it once was, as many of them now no longer acknowledge the real God. Though some may still continue to speak of God publicly on occasion, when politically correct, I tend to think that privately their lives would tell another tale. Many of their actions and votes do speak loud and clear of their actual beliefs.

And it is not just those holding public office that want us to believe that they too believe in the Living God. Many other appointed or self-appointed leaders, including judges, teachers, public servants, businessmen, entertainers, and sports figures, the ones who seek the public’s following and attention, and get it, may speak of God, but the one they refer to is also not the real God. If whom they speak of truly was, then their actions would prove louder, and much different, than their words.

The Ten Commandments. God has not removed them.
I am judging? Yes, and you should too. If we don’t have any solid basis on which to determine what characteristics and lifestyles to uphold, then whatever we too stand on will be no better. For that, we too will be judged by the Almighty Judge.

But my purpose in writing this message isn’t to point out the faults and sins of others, but rather to make us stop and think as to what we are really listening to, who we are listening to, andwhat we allow into our minds, souls and spirits each and every day, knowingly or unknowingly. If we just allow ourselves to be exposed to anything that comes our way, and don’t internally judge it based on biblical standards and foundations, then slowly but surely, we become as the frogs in the bucket of water that is slowly coming to a boil. It all may seem “good”, until eventually we will have lost our way, and face certain death.

In many ways, America already has.

You and I know that the real God, the Creator of the Universe, the One Who will judge each and everyone when we stand before Him, has the perfect right to judge. Either we will be declared righteous because we have accepted the redemption of His Only Begotten Son Jesus, Yeshua, or we will not. It is that simple. Our eternal destiny is based on this.

“O my soul, bless God. From head to toe, I'll bless his holy name! 2 O my soul, bless God,
don't forget a single blessing! He forgives your sins — every one. He heals your diseases — every one. He redeems you from hell — saves your life! He crowns you with love and mercy — a paradise crown. He wraps you in goodness — beauty eternal. He renews your youth — you're always young in his presence.” (Psalm 103:1-5, THE MESSAGE)

Far too often we ask God to bless America when He already has tremendously.

Far too often we ask God to bless America when our national sins tell of our true hearts.

May America instead repent and bless God, and lift His Name up high. Our only hope is in Him.

Now think on this, and see what good things the Lord has in store for you and those around you.
